2025
HEARTS FOR MALAWI GALA

About the Gala

The inaugural Hearts for Malawi Gala raised an impressive $45,000 on Saturday, September 20th, 2025, at the prestigious Carolina Club in Chapel Hill, making MCI's transformative work for children in Malawi possible through education, healthcare, and nutrition initiatives. The evening brought together community leaders, healthcare professionals, and philanthropists in support of an organization that has sent over $1 million directly to Malawi since 2017.

Creating an unforgettable fundraising experience, the gala featured an inspiring program with speakers including President and Co-founder Dr. Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Co-founder Dr. David Fitzgerald, Gala Committee Chair Nicole B. Marsh and Pediatric Emergency Medicine specialist Dr. Kathleen Gorman. A seven-minute documentary about MCI, including testimonials from Malawian healthcare workers, was the highlight of the evening. Expertly guided by emcee Aaron Keck of 97.9 WCHL, the event was enhanced by live music from Blue Cup Riot, professional photography by Vaysgant Visuals, and an exclusive auction featuring donated works from acclaimed artists Lynn Sanguedolce, Boots Quimby, Michele Vernon, Corinne Wolfrom, and Steven Ray Miller, exclusive travel experiences, and local experiences from Nina Merklina Photography, Carolina Performing Arts, Beem Light Sauna Durham, La Vita Dolce, Simply Savage, and Epic Bones.

The event was made possible through partnerships with Southern Village Neighbors magazine and Sunlit Storytelling, as well as generous sponsorships from Langino Law, Written Word Media, Applied Digital, and Cloudbudget.
